Nhi & Han’s Vietnamese Wedding in Austin, Texas

Nhi & Han’s wedding was a beautiful celebration of faith, family, friendship, and Vietnamese tradition — with a little bit of unpredictable Texas weather thrown in.

Their wedding ceremony took place at Holy Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church in Austin, surrounded by family and friends. The church ceremony was filled with quiet, meaningful moments before everyone headed to Capital Venue for the reception.

As a wedding photographer, these are the days I love documenting most. There are the beautiful portraits, of course, but there are also all the little moments in between — laughter, reactions, friends helping each other, and things that could never have been planned.

When a Texas Thunderstorm Changed the Plan

One of my favorite stories from the day happened right before the outdoor reception was supposed to begin.

A local thunderstorm suddenly rolled through Austin, and everything that had been carefully prepared outside had to be moved indoors.

Instead of letting it ruin the celebration, the decor team, wedding party, friends, and family jumped in to help. Tables, decorations, and reception details were moved inside while everyone waited for the storm to pass.

Then the rain stopped.

And everyone did it all over again — moving everything back outside so Nhi & Han could have the outdoor celebration they had planned.

It was hectic, but it was also one of those moments that says so much about a wedding day. So many people came together for one reason: to make the day special for Nhi & Han.

And in the end, the celebration was absolutely worth it.

An Unforgettable Vietnamese Wedding Reception

Once the reception started, the energy completely changed.

There was laughter, music, emotional moments, cake, dancing, and an incredible lion dance complete with sparks and smoke. The celebration became louder and more energetic as the night went on.

Those moments are why my approach to wedding photography is a mix of documentary storytelling and timeless portraits.

Some photographs should be beautifully composed.

Others simply need to capture exactly what it felt like to be there.

Nhi & Han’s wedding had plenty of both.
